Stress management workshops, exercise and wellness programmes are being conducted on all sites to explore factors such as working hours, diet, health, weight, stress, mood and sleeping patterns, that impact on people's energy levels and quality of rest.
In 2005, Marandoo engaged a psychologist and dietitian onsite to assist employees with their fitness-for-work and to provide easily accessible and regular support for anyone wanting to improve their health and decrease the likelihood of fatigue.
As a direct result of employee feedback, a trial program was initiated earlier this year to educate participants about how best to eliminate or minimise common fatigue symptoms.
Marandoo site manager Nic Markham said: “Fatigue is a complex issue and developing an understanding all of the things that contribute has been a great experience so far. It is great to provide something that is tailored to each person as an individual.”
"The program aims to give people the skills to better understand what causes their fatigue and what we can do to manage it. This in turn should result in a better quality of life both at work and on R&R.”
The Marandoo pilot program has been designed to provide volunteers with information and advice from onsite health professionals, including a dietitian, psychologist and exercise physiologist, and to have their sleeping patterns assessed by the WA Sleep Disorders Research Institute.
Personalised programs have been developed to help each participant to identify their own risk areas and to implement specific strategies to eliminate or minimise those risks.
Results from the Marandoo study will contribute to the development of a new fatigue management process that aims to establish a best practice solution across Pilbara Iron.
