Take 5 at home

Manual handling is a term synonymous with the workplace but you have just as great a risk of injury at home. By following safety principles and procedures as you would at work, you will be more aware of the many dangers lurking around your house.

You can apply the Take Five principles in your everyday life and on R&R. For example, when mowing the lawn, did you remember to put on closed shoes and goggles to minimize the risk of a foot or eye injury.

When you are cleaning out cupboards, remember to assess the risk of injury before you lift heavy objects from the top shelf. If the object is too heavy, you may not only injury your shoulder but it could fall on you and knock you out!
