We, as a nation are getting better at looking for low fat options on the shelf but what about salt? This amazing mineral has been close to us throughout history's ages preserving our foods, traded as currency and as a symbol of affluence but in the modern age too much of a good thing can cost us dearly.
When excessive sodium is consumed, our bodies retain fluid to stop us from dehydrating. This process can contribute towards the onset of high blood pressure and the risk of stroke. Another effect of an excessive sodium intake is that it can increase the tendency of blood clots - another factor contributing to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Looking to lower your salt intake?
